Welcome to Los Altos Hills
Electrifying
Our
Future
The town of Los Altos Hills is a thriving residential community nestled in the hills of Silicon Valley. Sitting in and around so much open space has given the town a character geared towards sustainability and preservation. The Town has been at the forefront of the movement towards clean, renewable energy and an electric future. The Town has adopted an ordinance to be fully off fossil fuels by the year 2045 and has adopted and ambitious slate of capital improvement projects to help support this goal and ensure the Town will be set up for success with a bright future for generations to come.
Strategic partnerships are key to the Town’s climate goals. One of the most important partnerships which the town has pursued in the last several years has been with Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE). This collaboration, among others, has allowed for increased resources to focus on electrifying town infrastructure, educating residents on the importance of sustainable and renewable energy, and providing tools to lower the barrier of entry on converting homes from fossil fuel reliance to clean energy.
SVCE Grant
The SVCE Decarbonization Grant is aimed at helping local communities move away from fossil fuel-reliant energy and towards a grid which relies on renewable sources such as wind and solar energy. Through the grant, local communities are enabled to develop infrastructure, informational material, and community resources focused on moving from fossil fuel-based energy to renewable sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. Through the creation of the grant in March, 2023, SVCE has committed to awarding over $10 million into local community clean energy programs and infrastructure. This kiosk is an outgrowth of the SVCE grant and was generously funded through the grant. The goal of this kiosk and other tools like it are to provide insightful, engaging, and effective education to residents on the benefits of switching to electric, renewable, energy and how simple these switches can be.
Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) is a regional, independent, public organization based in the south bay which provides clean power to over 270,000 homes and focuses on providing expertise, resources, and ideas to communities and individuals wanting to pursue a cleaner and greener energy future. SV Clean Energy flipped the switch and started providing carbon-free electricity at competitive rates to the community. Businesses and residents received notices about their new choices and that the switch to SV Clean Energy service was automatic. Since flipping the switch in 2017, SV Clean Energy has been supplying clean electricity to about 96% of residents and businesses in the community. SV Clean Energy is fighting climate change locally, accelerating renewable energy statewide, and reinvesting in our community through customer offers and services, grants, scholarships and sponsorships. Ageto Dashboard
The Town has taken the lead on electrifying its own operations through key capital improvement projects. One of the biggest recent projects was installing a solar powered battery to power Town Hall. A benefit of this upgrade is the ability to share the details of the battery charging and use activity in real time. Through the Ageto dashboard, the activity is viewable by clicking the link below.
